The need for improving the educational and economic levels of the people of Southeast Missouri has been well documented and is central to the mission of Southeast Missouri State University. In order to provide education and support economic development, it is essential to have access to information and the necessary skills to locate and retrieve it. Kent Library is a regional leader in providing both access to information and instruction in the skills needed to use it. However, its ability to provide the quality and amount of information access and information literacy instruction needed is constrained by the limited funding which Southeast Missouri State University can provide to Kent Library.

Gifts to Kent Library provide an opportunity to better meet this important challenge. Additional financial support to Kent Library through gifts to the Southeast Missouri University Foundation is used to address a variety of needs in order to meet this challenge. For example, contributions may be designated to enhance the collections housed in Kent Library or to expand the availability of technology in Kent Library. In addition, capital funds are needed to improve the Kent Library building which, for the most part, has not been upgraded since the late 1960s.
