Southeast Missouri University Foundation

Southeast's Annual Fund & Your Gift Planning

Did you know that tuition and state assistance doesn’t cover the cost of delivering affordable and excellent education to Southeast students?

Who makes the difference?  Friends and alumni like you.

The Southeast Missouri University Foundation has conducted an Annual Fund for many years to close that gap in funding and to create a margin of excellence that sets this University apart from others.  These unrestricted dollars allow Southeast to take advantage of unexpected opportunities and new challenges and support important but under-funded programs like need-based financial aid.

What could planned giving possibly have to do with the Annual Fund?  Your generosity through a bequest or other planned gift arrangement can provide tremendous assistance by ensuring the future of the Annual Fund.  The Foundation has established a special endowment – the Copper Dome Endowment – which pools gifts from many donors to generate unrestricted funds in perpetuity.

Here’s the idea – a contributor, who gives, say, $50 each year can include in his or her will a specific bequest for $1,000 to be deposited in this endowment.  Thereafter, this $1,000 gift will generate approximately $50 each year to the Annual Fund, just as the donor did during his or her life.  By raising the bequest to $10,000 this gift would generate $500 each year.  (Of course, your lifetime gifts may be designated for this new endowment as well.)

The significance of the Copper Dome Endowment for Southeast’s Annual Fund is considerable.  The funds generated each year will be available at the beginning of the academic year for immediate use – a “jump start” for the Annual Fund.  We have the benefit of knowing that these endowment monies will be there year after year, allowing us to see beyond basic obligations and anticipate meeting the needs of the University in years to come.  Furthermore, because of the Foundation’s investment policies, this endowment (as all others) will grow over time.

Most importantly, you will have the benefit of knowing that you will reach beyond your own lifetime to change the lives of tomorrow’s students.  You will still be missed – but your support will continue forever!

We hope you will consider this possibility as you look to your financial future.

Thank You for Your Kindness

Have you considered a gift to Southeast as a part of your will or some other form of planned gift? The Horizon Club is the planned giving recognition society through which the Southeast Missouri University Foundation recognizes those donors who have chosen to benefit the University through their will, living trust, charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder or lead trust, insurance policy, retirement plan or any other planned gift. These gifts are the result of careful planning involving the family’s attorney, trust officer, insurance underwriter, accountant and/or financial planner. Planned gifts are crucial for the long-term financial well-being of the Foundation and, ultimately, Southeast Missouri State University. To qualify for membership in the Horizon Club, individuals should complete a confidential membership form provided by the Foundation office. If preferred, individuals may become members of the Horizon Club and remain anonymous. All information will be kept in the strictest confidence according to the desires of the donor.
